Throughout the history of gaming, it is widely accepted to kill, pillage and destroy as long as the ladies keep their clothes on. OK, maybe we made that up. However, it is ironic that many companies will not touch a strip poker game but will make first person shooters until the cows come home. Fortunately some companies took a chance on this genre and male poker fans have been thankful ever since. Let’s take a brief look at the evolution of strip poker games.
Early strip poker games were at best considered very crudely designed, based on the limitations of technology. The first ever strip poker game was made for the Mac II, called Strip Poker: A Sizzling Game of Chance. Players played five card poker against a female opponent, and when you won, she took off clothing. Simple concept, but your opponent never got totally buff, leaving something to the player’s imagination.
Games such as Samantha Fox Strip Poker for the C64 and the arcade game Poker Ladies, took the genre a bit further and allowed players to actually see the ladies topless. However, the resolution was still something left to be desired. At least they were better than the 1990 flop Peek-a-Boo Poker. The game concept and graphics were so poor, that the producer pulled the game.
Strip Poker games continued to evolve and as EGA gave way to VGA, players actually got to appreciate their opponents “assets.” Modern day strip poker games like Sexy Poker for the Wii allows players to play Texas Hold’em poker but the concept remains the same – if you win, she strips, you lose, well, you don’t want to lose.
Sadly, nudity is more of a social taboo than violence and as such, strip poker games are going to be few and far between outside of the internet. However, the market for them will always be there and a few brave souls will meet the need. Maybe at some point in the future, a strip poker game for ladies will hit shelves. Just imagine the controversy that one will stir up !
