Retro Video Casino Games

December 18, 2012 By James Guill

In a matter of minutes, you can go to any one of the thousands of online casino and poker sites like those recommended at Pokersites that have popped up in the last few years – but things weren’t always this simple. Once upon a time, and not too long ago, digital gambling games were extremely limited. Their graphics were rudimentary and there was no way to play for real money. Let us take you on a trip down memory lane with a look at five retro casino and poker games that reigned supreme before the internet revolution!

sega_casinoSega Casino Games
This iconic gambling game was released for the Sega Master console back in 1989. It gave players a chance to play standard casino games like blackjack and baccarat, along with some unusual options like pinball! The goal of the game was to get your bankroll to $1 million as quickly as possible. If you’re feeling nostalgic or, if you just want to take a look at a truly retro gambling game, you can actually download Sega Casino Games to your PC!

Also released in 1989, Monte Carlo Casino was designed for use on Commodore 64’s. It gave players a chance to finally play five essential games from home – poker, roulette, blackjack, craps, and a million dollar slots fruit machine. The game has some pretty simple graphics but plenty of charm. As for the gameplay, players start with $10,000 and simply aim to win as much as possible using any means necessary.

This entry was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) back in 1989. Unlike the other games which pretty much just expect you to win cash, Casino Kid sends you on a mission. You must beat 16 different poker players and blackjack dealers to go to the mansion and play the game’s boss – the Casino King! This game’s concept is very interesting and it may be worth dusting off the NES, though, if you happen to stumble across this game.

Strip_Poker

Strip Poker
You might think that the title for this particular release (for the Commodore Amiga) is relying upon a double meaning but, in reality, it is about strip poker!  This is a game series that includes three separate titles released between 1982 until 1991. Like the title suggests, the object of the game is to take your opponents’ chips in order to undress them!

American_PokerAmerican Poker
This was a simple poker game released for the Commodore Amiga in 1993. It doesn’t bring much new to the genre and, in reality, it’s pretty low rated: even among the retro poker games. Today, with all of the options that you have access to, the only good reason to give this game a chance is to enjoy it for its cheesiness!

These games are totally obsolete now, but they paved the way for the modern online casinos at Cardschat that millions of players around the word take advantage of. Today, for example, you can play casino and poker games for real money from the comfort of your own home. Also, unlike the games listed above, the online casinos of today come with a ton of variety. There are literally hundreds of online casino and poker games at your fingertips and you can try them out for free! Just head over to one of our most highly recommended online gambling sites to see how things have changed!
