NAMCO Mini Arcade Machine Collection

October 4, 2016 By ausretrogamer

namco_arcade_collectionHave you ever wanted to recreate an arcade parlour from the 80s? You know those dark dingy joints you used to visit and wow at the pew-pew sounds coming out of Galaga or the distinct wakka-wakka-wakka sound effects from a Pac-Man machine? Ah, those were the days.

Now, where were we? Ah, rather than look for a commercial property and hitting eBay to find arcade machines to recreate your dream 80s arcade parlour, these tiny NAMCO Arcade Machines will go a long way to fulfil your creation. There are five in the collection (Galaga, Galaxian, Pac-Man, Rally-X and Tank Battalion), and we truly hope more will be released. Oh yeah, you will have to supply your own well worn carpet with chewing gum for that authentic look and feel.

You can pre-order your NAMCO Arcade Machine Collection now!

A row of beauties!

LEGO plus retrogaming is a match made in geek heaven. Feast your eyes on these amazing works of brick art.

Chris McVeigh

As well as being an awesome LEGO builder, Chris McVeigh is an author, illustrator and photographer. Chris develops build guides which he offers freely (for personal use only), and has custom building kits for sale at Storenvy.

This fantastic mosaic was built using 10,511 individual LEGO pieces (fixed to fifteen 15″x15″baseplates)! How many characters can you name?

Super Mario Bros. Aquarium

This gorgeous aquarium was made by designer and blogger Kelsey Kronmiller and it took her about 336 hours in total to build – but I’m sure you’ll agree it was well worth the effort.

I found plenty of other amazing works of retrogaming LEGO art (a few so great they deserve their own post), so stay tuned for more LEGO stories in the near future. In the meantime, get building!

Preston Burt’s Minimalist Arcade Posters

March 21, 2015 By Ms. ausretrogamer

While searching for a cool pinball-themed T-shirt for ausretrogamer, I stumbled across Preston Burt’s simply beautiful minimalist arcade posters on the Gameroom Junkies Podcast website. Interestingly, Preston is also a founder of the Southern-Fried Gameroom Expo (in Atlanta, June 19-21 2015) – if only I lived in the US!

Arcade Legends Of The Golden Age

August 12, 2014 By ausretrogamer

ArcadeLegendsGrowing up during the golden age of arcade gaming, I didn’t know nor care who created them, I just wanted to have fun playing them. I was always on the lookout for titles that other gamers and friends were talking about. Who was Dave Theurer or Eugene Jarvis? These names didn’t mean a thing to me as a youngster. As long as I had coins to pump into the machines, I was happy.

With passing of time, my curiosity got the better of me. Forgetting about the Sega, Atari, Taito, Nintendo, Namco arcade brands, I was curious to know who the human beings were behind some of the industry’s most iconic arcade games.

This is my way of paying homage to the real creative legends of the arcade games I loved (still love) playing.

Welcome to the ausretrogamer ‘Arcade Legends Hall of Fame’.

Inheriting An Old Japanese Games Centre

June 1, 2014 By ausretrogamer

Some people are just lucky. Imagine if you will, your girlfriend’s grandmother (Ed: so not even your own blood relative?) buys an old building and then finds that there are two floors brimming with arcade machines and game boards dating back 20 years and she leaves them all to you! This is a true story and the lucky son of a gun is Keisuke999.

The machines were left to him to do as he wishes. So what does he do – he puts them up for sale, of course!  If you are keen to see what is on offer, take a peek at Keisuke999’s thread on NeoGAF.

A Field Guide To Arcade Machine Designs

January 9, 2014 By ausretrogamer

If you have trouble finding arcade machines or describing what they look like, use these field identification guide artworks by Komboh. These identification kit artworks are a fun series of annotated diagrams of iconic arcade cabinets, from Pong through to the VewLix L. Thank you to Jason Oakley for making me aware of these classic arcade machine design pieces.
