The Art Of Atari: From Pixels To Paintbrush

March 28, 2014 By ausretrogamer

Were you one of those kids that would stare in wonder at the Atari VCS/2600 game boxes? I recall being wide-eyed whenever I spotted the box art of any Atari game. Walking to the counter, I was somehow spatially aware even though I would have both hands clasped around the box and my eyes fixated on the art. The nostalgia of remembering those times is truly intoxicating.

The still-in-development coffee table book, The Art Of Atari: From Pixels To Paintbrush, is a trip down nostalgia lane, celebrating the golden age of video gaming box art design. Creator Tim Lapetino is hunting down 136 original Atari game box artworks, some of which could be seen below. To say we are excited would be a gross understatement!

Mario vs. The Rest Of The World

February 6, 2014 By ausretrogamer

If Mario was on steroids, would he go on a roid rage and take on every video gaming character in his way? Looking at these fine pieces of art by Sebastian Von Buchwald, it looks like that he may. Our hero has become the angry anti-hero!

Breaking Bad: The NES Cartridge

January 24, 2014 By ausretrogamer

It’s ok, my jaw dropped too. You can slowly put it back in place. Who wouldn’t want a Breaking Bad (Bad Breaker! – very clever!) inspired NES cart? This is one of many fine NES cartidge artistic works by some very talented artists at 72 Pins.

These created items use classic NES cartridges recycled as an art canvas. Inside the cart, you will find a random vintage game from the original NES lineup that still works! Very cool indeed. All profits go directly to supporting the artists and the teams involved in the creation of these carts.

Check out the rest of their range down below and then hit their site to support the artists!

Deconstructed: Video Game Controllers

November 22, 2013 By ausretrogamer

Ever wanted to perform an autopsy on your precious retro gaming controllers? With the precision of a surgeon, Brandon Allen’s Deconstructed artwork series does exactly that –  dissecting our favourite controllers to view what is inside of them. By the look of it, not much, but hey, they still did the trick.

If you like any of these photographs, head over to the Ballen Photography Print Shop and place your order. These are awesome and unique video gaming related artworks.

WARNING: Do not perform this on your working classic controllers!

Artwork: Video Games vs Real Life

November 1, 2013 By ausretrogamer

We have seen an increase in video gaming mash’em ups in the recent past (Contra vs Paperboy being one of my favourites) . I am glad to say that this mash-up concept has now converged to the artistic field.

Aled Lewis Studio creates brilliant artworks that you would be proud to hang on your wall. We recently contacted Aled Lewis Studio and requested to show-off some of their impressive artworks from their ‘Video Games vs Real Life’ collection. They were very much obliging.

If you like what you see here (Ed: I am still drooling!), then head over to their store and start browsing for your ultimate video gaming art piece!
