Taycan PONG Arcade Battle: Porsche X Atari

April 4, 2023 By ausretrogamer

Ready, Player One? Porsche Taycan Arcade Is Here!

Now here is a collaboration we never saw coming – Porsche and Atari! Say what?!

Porsche Cars Australia recently released a campaign featuring two Porsche Taycan electric sportscars playing an intense, high-speed, real-life version of Pong. In this life-sized adaptation of the 1970’s Atari classic, the paddles are two Porsche Taycan sportscars while the ball is a fast moving high-tech drone.

Along with the video, Porsche Cars Australia have also created Taycan Arcade, an interactive web-based game inspired by Pong. Players can use their keyboard or mobile device to move their Taycan up and down on their side of the screen trying to deflect a fast moving ball towards their opponent. Get the ball past your opponents Taycan, and players score a point.

Porsche fans and PONG video game lovers can play Taycan Arcade here.

Mama Mia: Mario Kart IRL

April 24, 2015 By Ms. ausretrogamer

Mario Kart IRL

Mama Mia! The clever engineers of Waterloo Labs have created an incredible real-life Mario Kart track with a functional item system.

They explain: ‘The goal of this project is to recreate Nintendo’s Mario Kart game in real life. This involves building a system to control the movements of a full sized go-kart as well as a wireless communication system. The end result is a go-kart system where each player can race around a track and pick up items that alter the behaviors of the go-karts’.

I know you are probably itching to rush out to find this amazing track, but sadly it was only a temporary set up. However, all is not lost – the guys provide detailed information on how to build your own (please be sure to let us know if you do!).

And don’t forget to check out their other projects such as the Kinect-a-Sketch and the Eye controlled Mario.

The above cars are great for sure – but they have nothing on this last amazing ride: an Out Run arcade that drives as you play!

Out Run

As described on the project’s website: ‘Garnet Hertz’s video game concept car combines a car-shaped arcade game cabinet with a real world electric vehicle to produce a video game system that actually drives. OutRun offers a unique mixed reality simulation as one physically drives through an 8-bit video game. The windshield of the system features custom software that transforms the real world into an 8-bit video game, enabling the user to have limitless gameplay opportunities while driving’. Visit the Concept Lab website for more info, additional photos and videos.
