THE GAME EXPO returns in March 2024

THE GAME EXPO (TGX) is returning after this year’s successful debut show!

The gaming events calendar is perfectly balanced between the two expo giants, TGX in March, and PAX Aus in October. If you are over your PAX Aus experience and are fretting for the next big gaming event, you are in luck, as tickets for TGX 2024 have just gone on sale!

Current TGX news is that there are a list of returning activities, including the mega popular Creator Showdown PC LAN tournament, Cosplay Cup, Artist Alley, Tabletop Gaming, Freeplay Video Gaming and an expanded Indie Games Zone to name just a few. TGX 2024 will have much more to reveal, so we’ll be keeping a keen eye on their announcements between now and March and let you know all about it – so make sure you are following us on X/Twitter and Facebook!

TGX – The Game Expo Is Coming To Melbourne in 2023

Melbourne will now have another big gaming and pop culture event, TGX (THE GAME EXPO) – March 11-12, 2023!

Move over PAX Aus, there is a new event for gaming, pop culture and tech, THE GAME EXPO, debuting March 2023 at the Melbourne Convention Centre.

From the press release below, we can see that TGX’s mission is to be an event that closely connects with the community, is focused on participation, through creativity and competitive events – as well as freeplay and heaps of fun activities! There will be something for everyone at TGX come March 2023!

The Game Expo (TGX) is dedicated to gamers, focused on the things gamers love to do, and the culture and creativity of gamers. The Game Expo is all about YOU, and everyone who loves games. This new home grown, Australian owned event will showcase gaming at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, putting gaming culture forward on Melbourne’s festive Moomba weekend, March 11-12, 2022.

You will get to dive into esports tournaments from beginner to pro level. You can show your creativity and meet creators showing wonderful cosplay, artwork, and meet Youtube or Twitch content creators. Relax and enjoy gaming of all kinds from tabletop and card gaming, to console freeplay and a massive BYOC PC LAN. And see the games from indie developers up to major publishers. Whatever you love in the gaming community, it’s at The Game Expo.

Each corner of the show is about games culture, and everywhere you look, there’s something to see and do. A show focused on gamers and gaming culture is about participation first. Guided by a concept of games culture with the three Cs:

  • Creativity
  • Competition
  • Community

Four themed zones of the event correspond to the coloured buttons on the Game Expo logo. These colours match floor plan and schedule so it’s easy to find your favourite activity. Each zone will have a feature area or stage to highlight the fun.

Red – Tournaments – Community and Competitive – esports, Console and PC Live tournaments, and stage events with prizes.

Yellow – Expo Hall – Tech and Gaming Brands – Explore new games and tech at exhibitor booths, try demos, and complete event quests.

Blue – Creative – Show your love of gaming – Meet your favourite streamers and content creators, witness amazing cosplay and live performances, and discover the talent of fantastic artists.

Green – Freeplay – Everyone is welcome to play – There’s fun freeplay all over the show, with special zones for console and PC play as well as a dedicated tabletop gaming zone where you can learn to play from the free library of board and card games, join tournaments, and more.

FIFA Football Stays the Same

Some video game franchises are so iconic, like the changing seasons, there will always be a new one. FIFA Soccer, or FIFA Football, depending on what country you’re in, is one of those franchises; but lately it feels like the popular game has become complacent and somewhat stale.

EA Sport’s FIFA Soccer 2006 is one of my favorite sports games. When it was released almost two decades ago; I couldn’t wait to get out of class and play a match, before I would work on my homework. On the weekends, I would play FIFA so much that I would lose track of time and realize it was suddenly Sunday. I found it difficult to put down my controller and turn off the addictive game.

FIFA 2006 doesn’t seem that much different than FIFA ’22. There haven’t been many radical changes to the franchise in years. Perhaps that’s why FIFA is the bestselling sports franchise, generating more than $20 billion in sales over the last twenty years. FIFA is such a popular game because gamers who love the franchise don’t particularly like big changes to the familiar gameplay and graphics. In all fairness, EA Sports’ Madden hasn’t changed that much in the last decade either.

The last EA Sports FIFA will be the ’23 edition

I like watching the PS4 Tournament Open Series. I get more enjoyment watching FIFA tournaments online than I do other EA Sports games on the market. Madden tournaments are fun to watch on television, but they’re on all the time. FIFA tournaments are less frequent, which makes them more entertaining and pleasurable when I happen to find one.

FIFA ’28 (or EA FC by then) will likely look a lot like FIFA ’22. The sports franchise is a gaming institution that’ll still be going strong decades from now. The players will change, but the game modes and graphics will not change dramatically.

It was recently announced that FIFA and EA Sports will end their successful partnership. The game will not change because of the breakup, most of the world’s popular clubs and players will still be playable because of separate licensing deals.

Fully Vaxxed, Masked Game Industry Reunion Kicks Off April 21, 2022

PAX East 2022 welcomes renowned video game writer, producer, content creator, voice actor, and charity streamer Alanah Pearce, who will give the Storytime keynote address as the East Coast’s most attended gaming event. Hundreds of publishers, developers, and other exhibitors will come together Thursday, April 21 through Sunday, April 24, 2022 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center for the first time in two years.

A champion of accessibility, equality, and diversity in games, Pearce created the Video Game Accessibility Awards in 2020 and joined a AAA studio as a video game writer that same year. She will welcome gamers home to PAX East with the Storytime keynote address from the Main Theatre (and streamed live on Twitch) on Thursday, April 21 at 10:30 AM Eastern.

Just in case you have never heard of eSports, it means Electronic Sports – a form of organised, competitive gaming between professional gamers. eSports competitions are organised by several local and international organisations around the world, and the sport is rapidly growing in popularity. eSports Is Coming To The Pinball Arcade

Get those flippin fingers ready, as eSports is coming to The Pinball Arcade!

FarSight Studios has partnered with Pinball Joe and Major League Pinball and starting this year, they plan to bring you sponsored tournaments where you can win cash and prizes. Players will be able to compete in time and objective based tournaments to establish themselves as the best in their geographical region. The first tournament is to be launched this month (January) with many more to come. This is going to be a huge year in video pinball!

Twin Galaxies Arcade and eSports Event Centre

TwinGalaxies_Title_1Just in case you have been off the grid in the last week or so, there have been some major announcement in the gaming world. No, we are not referring to Splatoon, which was released to much hype, but the other big news of the day was about the Twin Galaxies Arcade and eSports Event Centre.

After being in the wilderness for what seems an eternity, Twin Galaxies has come out and announced the rebirth of Twin Galaxies Arcade! The 120,000 square feet purpose-built gaming centre will be the home for eSports World Championship tournaments, large presentations and conferences,  and the official home of the “Museum of Pinball” and Twin Galaxies “Arcade Expo”.

The private facility, which is partnered with Guinness World Records, also has a full outdoor live concert area, fibre optic internet for live broadcasting and multiple console stations equipped with everything from the latest modern gaming systems through to the older stuff like the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) and Nintendo Entertainment System.
