October 8, 2024 By ausretrogamer

Press Start To Play!

Get ready to be transported back to the golden age of gaming magazines with Forgotten Worlds Issue 4! This edition is a true love letter to the legendary publications that defined gaming journalism in the ‘90s and early 2000s, from Mean Machines to EGM, Super Play, GamePro, Hyper, and CVG. With over 100 full-color, perfect-bound pages, Issue 4 is packed with stories that will hit the nostalgia sweet spot for any retro gaming fan.

What’s Inside?
This issue takes you behind the scenes of the most iconic gaming magazines ever printed. Through exclusive interviews with the editors, writers, and artists who crafted these classics, you’ll get a rare look at what it was like to be on the frontlines of video game journalism. Daniel Wilks from Hyper magazine, for example, shares fascinating anecdotes about the highs and lows of capturing the magic of gaming culture for print. And that’s just the start—there’s something for every fan, from the console wars to the rise of imports and RPGs!

A Kickstarter for the Ages
To make Issue 4 happen, the Forgotten Worlds team has launched a Kickstarter campaign that is well worth checking out. Fans of retro gaming history can grab their copy through the campaign, as well as enjoy exclusive perks and rewards. Whether you’re a collector, a historian, or just someone who loves a good deep dive into the evolution of gaming, this Kickstarter is your ticket to securing this limited-edition treasure.

So why wait? Join the campaign, snag yourself a copy, and get ready to relive the glory days of gaming journalism with Forgotten Worlds Issue 4!

Nolan Bushnell: Welcome to Your World, Your Way

May 13, 2015 By ausretrogamer

Nolan_Bushnell_at_FW_TITLELast night we had the unexpected pleasure of spotting Nolan Bushnell on the telly. No, we weren’t watching ‘Atari: Game Over‘, it was a new ad campaign for ANZ Bank – ‘Welcome to Your World, Your Way’.

The campaign – which aims to inspire people to shape their own world, and their own future – features a raft of ‘Worldshapers’ or ‘inspiring individuals with drive, commitment and imagination in transforming the world around them’.

Nolan Bushnell is undeniably a Worldshaper! As ANZ describe:

‘Back in 1972, few could have imagined a game console in the home. But Nolan did, and the world took note… The world has changed a lot since 1972. And Nolan has played a big part in changing it.’

The Atari co-founder is filmed playing old school arcade machines at Forgotten Worlds, an awesome barcade in Collingwood, Victoria. Ah, if only we knew Nolan was there, we would have challenged him to a game of Asteroids!

Rise Of The Arcade Phoenix

September 5, 2014 By ausretrogamer

arcade_1It is always sad to see a family business close down. This is all the more apparent in the arcade and pinball parlour establishments. Long gone are the days of dark and dingy arcade joints we used to revel in. With the advent of super consoles and redemption machines, the old arcade parlours have been banished to the past.

Alas, there is hope! Barcades are starting to pop up all around the US. Their popularity is undeniable! We only have one here in Melbourne – Forgotten Worlds. There is even GameRoom Essentials in Adelaide, a throwback to old school arcades. Oh yeah, how could I forget the Mana Bar in Brisbane – another very hip bar and gaming establishment. We are keeping our fingers crossed that more of these throwback arcades and barcades pop-up around Australia!

Fun ‘N’ Games indeed!

Forgotten Worlds: Arcade Bar and Espresso

May 6, 2014 By ausretrogamer

FW_title

If you are yearning for a good old fashioned arcade experience with a touch of nourishment and refreshments of the adult kind, then the Forgotten Worlds arcade bar and espresso will be right up your alley!

We have yet to experience this cool arcade bar in the heart of Collingwood (we did go past it when it was closed), but after seeing the below Ford EcoSport Urban Discoveries video, it is high on our bucket list! Oh yeah, we hope to see CTrix there too!

We will write about our experience once we visit Forgotten Worlds for a bite, a drink and a (very long) play. Stay tuned!
