SPACE INVADERS: World Defense – A Cool New AR Smartphone Game

August 22, 2023 By ausretrogamer

Hold onto your blasters, because Taito – the developers of the OG Space Invaders – have unleashed Space Invaders: World Defense, a 3D augmented reality (AR) extravaganza that turns your smartphone into an alien-blasting weapon. Picture this: you’re waving your phone around in the air like you’re swatting digital mosquitoes, all in the name of defending Earth from an extraterrestrial invasion. That’s one way to get those arm muscles in shape, right? Welcome to the 21st-century workout routine, where Pokémon GO meets intergalactic cardio!

And if you’re ready to embrace your inner space-pilot, you can snag this quirky game on iOS and on Android right now! Prepare to go head-to-head with pixelated invaders who’ve decided Earth is the hottest tourist spot in the universe. These little buggers are leveling up – they’re now masters of evasion, peeking out from behind buildings and doing their best dodgeball impressions. Who knew aliens had taken improv classes?

Be warned though, this isn’t just a solo mission. It’s an international showdown, as players team up across the globe to squash these pixel-pushers before they can beam up any more unsuspecting cows. High scores and special power-ups are the name of the game, and we’re praying that among those power-ups is a “Death Star Superlaser” option. Let’s be real, we could all use a planet-blasting tool to level the playing field. Otherwise, we’re leading the charge, and trust us, Earth’s fate is doomed if we’re in charge of fending off an all out alien invasion. We still can’t even fold a fitted sheet, let alone save the world.

Hijinx Hotel – The Best Place to Play, Not Stay

April 3, 2023 By ausretrogamer

Now this is something different and quite cool – the Hijinx Hotel has now opened in Chadstone’s The Social Quarter – their new entertainment precinct.

So what is Hijinx Hotel then? Well, rather than us paraphrasing, here it is from the horses mouth:

Hijinx Hotel is an immersive interactive game experience housed within the theme, wonder and theatre of a quirky New York style hotel where the rooms are reimagined into quick play, challenge rooms. Leave the suitcases at home – these are rooms where you play, not stay.

Each of the hotel wings home highly fun & experiential, game-afied rooms made up of 5 different collaborative games. Hijinx is perfect for the young and the young at heart, for groups, on a date or just out with a mate.

As lovers of escape rooms, we are very intrigued by this take on the hotel game-fueled concept which drips a lot of nostalgia. The company behind the Hijinx Hotel is Funlab, who also operate Strike, Holey Moley and Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq, so they know a thing or two on how to create fun for adults!

If you are intrigued, like us, then check out the Hijinx Hotel website to see what you can experience at this very unique hotel.

A DIY Real Life Tetris Game!

September 21, 2020 By ausretrogamer

What do you do if you don’t have a Game Boy with Tetris? You build a real life Tetris game from some solid cardboard, that’s what!

This creation made us smile, which is exactly what we all needed for the start of the working week.

PinBox 3000: Making Of A Pinball Designer

December 1, 2017 By ausretrogamer

We bought the PinBox 3000 for our little one to be creative and have some fun. By creating her own pinball machine this may be the making of a future pinball designer – no pressure of course!

We can’t wait to see what our little one will come up with. We reckon Steve Ritchie and John Borg better watch out!

PS: We will report on her pinball table creations once she is old enough and stops putting things in her mouth.
