‘Metroid: The Sky Calls’ By Rainfall Films

‘Metroid: The Sky Calls’ is a beautiful live action short by Rainfall Films set in the Metroid universe. It is directed by Sam Balcomb and stars Jessica Chobot (Nerdist) and America Young (Halo 5).

‘The classic Nintendo franchise, Metroid, envisioned through the lens of 60s-70s science fiction cinema such as 2001, Alien, and Solaris: this was the concept for Rainfall’s most recent production. Instead of using a modern approach, a style was developed more in tune with the themes that inspired the first Metroid game in 1986: isolation, exploration, and the wonders of deep space.’

Time For Link To Break His Silence: A Live-Action Zelda Series!

main picIn the biggest video game adaptation news of the moment: Netflix is in the early stages of developing a live-action series based on Zelda – wow! Apparently it is envisioned as Game of Thrones for a family audience.

If the project pans out, it will be a rare example of a Nintendo adaptation – others include the 1989 animated Legend of Zelda series and the disappointing Super Mario Bros. movie from 1993.

Super-Mario-Bros.-MovieIn 2004 there was talk of a Metroid film to be directed by John Woo, but according to the former producer Brad Foxhoven, the project fell through when Nintendo became nervous about handing over control of their characters’ back stories and development to the film’s writers and directors.

metroidIn latest reports, Netflix is seeking a writer for the project. Let’s hope this one gets off the ground and is well received because a successful adaptation could open the door to many more exciting Nintendo-themed films and series.

On a final note, The Verge has some excellent suggestions for a winning cast, including Maisie Williams as young Link and Natalie Dormer as adult Link.

Cops: The Legend Of Zelda

Zelda_copsAny time I hear or see the word “Cops”, I want to break out into Inner Circle’s “Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when they come for you, bad boys, bad boys”. Too bad I haven’t got the Jamaican accent down pat.

By now you are all quite aware of my aversion to adventure and role-playing-games (RPGs). There is one game in this genre that I wish I could “get into”, but I never could – The Legend of Zelda. I own quite a few ‘Zelda’ titles, but playing them is all together another matter. Even though I am not a fan of the game, I do respect the franchise. With that said, this Game Trailers Legend of Zelda: Retrospective video is compelling viewing, even for the non-Zelda fan.
