LEGO Ideas – The Legend of Zelda

June 16, 2020 By ausretrogamer

How darn awesome is it when you get notified of a new LEGO Ideas creation? Well, we think that it is!

This new LEGO Ideas entry by Willjeum is based on Nintendo franchise stalwart, The Legend of Zelda. The LEGO Legend of Zelda – Lynel Defense, features a small build of the Hyrule castle front gates (inspired by the Hyrule castle from Ocarina of Time) and two Lynels (inspired by the golden and red Lynels from Breath of the Wild), as well as figures of Link, Zelda and two Hyrule Guards.

This custom build has an impressive 737 parts, so this is one hefty LEGO Ideas submission. Voting is still open, so if you like this custom Lego set, hop to it.

It’s-a me, LEGO Super Mario

March 13, 2020 By ausretrogamer

With everything going on in the world right now, you’d be forgiven for missing some big (geeky) news. Thanks to our friends (Phil and Kristy – you guys rock!), we’ve been informed that Lego will be releasing a new playset and characters based on Nintendo’s coveted franchise, Super Mario!

The below video hints at what fans can expect when LEGO Super Mario launches later this year, showing a player using an interactive Mario figure collecting coins in a real-life game level that has been created with LEGO bricks.

Reading through the press release, this passage made us get quite giddy,

“Neither a video game nor a traditional LEGO brick-based set, LEGO® Super Mario™ is a new product line that features an interactive LEGO Mario figure who collects coins in real-life game levels created with LEGO bricks. The new line will let kids experience the playful world of Super Mario like never before.”

To say we are excited would be the biggest understatement of 2020! We can’t wait for this to be released (later this year)!

LEGO Ideas: Bomberman

November 28, 2019 By ausretrogamer

Hands up who doesn’t like Bomberman – if you put your hand up, shame on you! Haha, just kidding, if you aren’t into Bomberman, but like Lego, this still may be of interest!

We’ll come out clean, Bomberman is one of a handful of video games we play a lot, especially with friends, so when we saw Indy988’s Lego Ideas Bomberman entry, we were quite chuffed and immediately pledged our support! We want these things to become a reality! Go and support this – right now!

Attack From Mars in Mechanical Lego Style

August 24, 2019 By ausretrogamer

Yes, another pinball related post. Ohhhh c’mon, it’s not that bad, we promise you’ll enjoy this one too!

As we are (a tad) obsessed with pinball, when we found out that pinball and LEGO go really well together, we had to let you know what we had found. If you are a talented and mechanically minded LEGO creator, like Teun de Wijs (aka: YouTuber TonyFlow76), you build a fully kinetic depiction of a pinball player flipping one of the greatest machines of all time, Attack From Mars!

For those that want to delve under the covers, Teun states that he used a few new techniques to build this awesomeness:

  • a cam wheel for the head movement,
  • a 9V Power Functions motor as a generator for four sets of blinking lights, three of which are mechanically activated by switches, and
  • three spring-action lift-arms for the “bumping” motion.

Hopefully Teun submits this to LEGO Ideas – we’d vote the heck out of it. Anyway, all we can say is, press play and return to battle soldier!

It’s On Like Lego Donkey Kong!

June 25, 2019 By ausretrogamer

This Lego Donkey Kong arcade machine by Aussie Lego building sensation, Kale Frost (aka: Frostbricks), could easily be an awesome Lego Ideas entrant! If it were, we would vote the heck out of it (and so would all of you). We shall pray to the Lego gods that we’ll see this kit on a toy shelf one day! Absolutely love the level of detail Frostbricks has gone to on this one-of-a-kind Lego production.

Oh yeah, if you want to check out other brilliant Lego (Brick Built Creations) by Frostbricks hit Kale’s site and Instagram right now! You can thank us later 😉

Lego Sonic Mania – Green Hill Zone: Vote Now

June 7, 2019 By ausretrogamer

Whoa, on the back of the cool Lego Sega Classic Arcade Machines idea we shared with you last week comes the Lego Ideas based on Sonic The Hedgehog!

Titled Sonic Mania – Green Hill Zone, you can show your support for this set on the Lego Ideas site right now!

This Lego Ideas set includes:

  • “Classic” Sonic the Hedgehog minifigure, with additional “running blur” build
  • Dr Eggman, Motobug and three Flickies as brick-built figures
  • Green Hill Zone “Spring & Palm Tree” and “Loop & Extra Life” modules
  • Egg Robot mech
  • Phantom Ruby and Ring accessories
  • 612 pieces, with 11 new prints (excluding minifigure).

If you still need convincing to support this awesome Lego set idea, here are a few play features to tickle your fancy:

  • Connect the Green Hill Zone modules together to design your own set pieces, mimicking the power of the Phantom Ruby warping the world!
  • Use the “Spring & Palm Tree” module to launch Sonic and his Flicky friends into the air, using the Technic lever to move the spring!
  • Use the Sonic the Hedgehog minifigure to run through the environment, collecting the ring and Extra Life (representing this being Sonic’s second try after his virtual journey through LEGO Dimensions!)
  • Dr Eggman can sit inside the Egg Robot mech, which can pose with its articulated arms and legs.
  • Use the handle on the end of the Egg Robot’s arms to extend its hands and use the drill attack on its enemies!
  • The Motobug can catch Sonic by surprise, making him lose his ring!
  • Have Sonic and Eggman fight for the Phantom Ruby!

The Brixty Four: A Full-Size Working Lego Commodore 64

November 28, 2018 By ausretrogamer

Back in the 80s we loved playing with Lego and on our Commodore 64. So what a better way than to mash these two into one and create the Brixty Four – a full-size working Lego Commodore 64, complete with a functioning sprung keyboard, power pack, working LED light and a replica LEGO mobo (Ed: motherboard!) with all of the famous MOS chips, including Bob Yannes’ brilliant SID chip!

If you want Christian Simpson’s (aka: Perifractic) awesome Lego C64 to become mass produced, then go to Lego Ideas and show your support by giving it a vote right now!
