DOOM II: Hell In Jerry’s Apartment

June 29, 2016 By Ms. ausretrogamer

Seinfeld DOOM II featuredIt doesn’t get much more ’90s’ than DOOM II and Seinfeld. This mashup is real, and it’s spectacular!

Huge Seinfeld fan, Doug Keener, spent 100+ hours creating this spongeworthy wad about nothing. Play DOOM II inside 129 West 81st Street with sprites of the whole gang – audio clips and death animations included. So, giddy up and get playing.

Doug explains: ‘I am a massive fan of Seinfeld. The characters were put into the replica as a bonus to add to the tribute. The only reason they are killable is because I wanted to keep it in traditional Doom fashion, because what is doom without violence and death? This is in no way a “hate video” towards Seinfeld or the cast. It is a tribute and an homage to one of the greatest television shows of all-time, as well as one of the greatest video games of all-time’.

Pixel Baz: Awesome Pixel Art Mashups

April 23, 2015 By Ms. ausretrogamer

There’s not much to say about Pixel Baz‘s pixel art retrogaming/movie mashups other than they are a whole lot of fun. I would happily play all these games!

Free To Play Retro Game Mash-Ups

February 6, 2015 By Ms. ausretrogamer

Mash-ups aren’t anything new, but when you can play them, things start to get quite interesting. Check out this Super Mario site that mashes our favourite video game characters in other games or pop culture scenarios and then allows you to have a go!

All the mash-up games are Flash based and can be played on your Android devices.

The games are quite cute and fun – who wouldn’t like to beat-up Koopas, Lui Kang-style in Mario Combat!

There is also Tuper Tario Tros – a Super Mario Bros. and Tetris mash-up where you use your tetraminos to build a safe path across the level.

pic c

And who wouldn’t like to have Sonic speeding through Mario’s familiar landscape in Sonic Super Marioland – I guess Dr Robotnik has kidnapped Amy Rose.

There are many more strange and wonderful knock-off Super Mario games, from the fun Super Mario Truck Driver to Super Mario Space Shuttle with the awesome Can’t Touch This soundtrack! If you like to experience Mario in a Mafioso Godfather styled game, then have a crack at God Father Super Mario, you’ll be a ‘made man’ in no time.

Retro Games with Modern Themes: Retro Games and Movies Mashup

September 29, 2014 By ausretrogamer

As featured in the French art book, Geek-Art: An Anthology: Art, Design, Illustration & Pop Culture, we have found these very cool illustrations of fictional classic video game boxes adapted for films and TV shows.

We love the hand-written notes on the packaging – a very nice touch. With so much awesomeness to look at, we can’t pick a favourite. Can you?

Digital Art: Video Games vs Real Life

August 18, 2014 By ausretrogamer

Let’s get this straight, I love video games being mashed into real life locations. I was super impressed with Aled Lewis Studio’s video gaming artwork, and now we have Lee Vidal coming to the party with his artistic effort.

Lee has done a fabulous job at placing iconic video games in very apt real life locations. If you don’t believe us, just take a peek below. If you would like to see more of Lee’s artistic works, head on over to his deviantArt page.

Mash’em Up: Kung Fu vs Mega Man vs Everyone

November 13, 2013 By ausretrogamer

Dust off your trusty NES console, add some Kung Fu and about a dozen other retro games into the mix and this is what you get – a mish-mash of Kung Fu versus everyone and Mega Man traversing the known video gaming landscape in search of Sylvia. You will love the cameos in this video!

GTA V: Super Mario Edition

November 4, 2013 By ausretrogamer

Not strictly a mash’em up of sorts, this GTA V Super Mario Edition has some cool Super Mario effects and tunes. For those that take offence to simulated video gaming violence, please skip this! For the rest of you, enjoy!

Super Smash Wars: Nintendo Buys Star Wars

November 3, 2013 By ausretrogamer

SuperSmashWars_title

Nintendo buys Star Wars? Before you have a coronary, relax – this video by James Farr depicts what would occur if the Japanese video gaming giant procured the Star Wars rights from Disney.

The story goes something like this (in typical Star Wars roll-up-the-screen fashion):

Super Smash Wars
Quest Log IV: A Link To The Hope
When Phantom Lord Ganon-Darth unveils his latest weapon, it will be up to Link Skywaker to learn the ways of the TRIFORCE, and lead a rag-tag rebellion against the Empire.

You know if Nintendo was involved with Star Wars, it would be nothing short of SUPER!

Artwork: Video Games vs Real Life

November 1, 2013 By ausretrogamer

We have seen an increase in video gaming mash’em ups in the recent past (Contra vs Paperboy being one of my favourites) . I am glad to say that this mash-up concept has now converged to the artistic field.

Aled Lewis Studio creates brilliant artworks that you would be proud to hang on your wall. We recently contacted Aled Lewis Studio and requested to show-off some of their impressive artworks from their ‘Video Games vs Real Life’ collection. They were very much obliging.

If you like what you see here (Ed: I am still drooling!), then head over to their store and start browsing for your ultimate video gaming art piece!
