Freakin Frankie’s Home Video Store

April 16, 2021 By ausretrogamer

We have featured a number of Blockbuster Video stories on here, so it is friggin cool to see our very good friend, Freakin Frankie, emulate his very own Blockbuster Video Store right in his dining room!

Before we start drooling over his setup, we have been aware of Frankie’s love of movies and his growing collection ever since we met many moons ago, but to see his vast collection in the below pics has totally blown us away – but wait, there is more……

Once Frankie put out his initial tweet about embarking on the massive task of presenting his collection of 3,500+ titles, we put down our our bowl of Cheezels and took note! The follow up tweet thread of his home video store setup was impressive to say the least! As collectors ourselves, we can quite easily say that Freakin Frankie’s Home Video Store setup is darn awesome and impressive. Frankie mentioned that he opted against double stacking (as he wanted the authentic video store feel) and decided to sort his collection in alphabetic order, which works very well for our OCD brain – now where is that Akira DVD at?!

Ok, now you can start drooling!

The tough part – sorting through the massive library!

Experimenting with the video store setup!

And now, the finished product – welcome to Freakin Frankie’s Home Video Store!

The World’s Last Blockbuster Store Is Available To Book on Airbnb

August 12, 2020 By ausretrogamer

We may have found our ‘blow our mind‘ moment for the day!

Wanna relive the 90s again by browsing shelves full of VHS tapes, watching movies on the VCR and eating popcorn on your old school lounge-suite? Well, if you are a resident of Deschutes County (Oregon, US), then you are in luck, as you can book and stay at the world’s last Blockbuster store via Airbnb! This seriously is mind blowing, with the nostalgia meter going off the scale.

Oh yeah, if you are lucky enough to immerse yourself in this glorious 90s nostalgia, don’t forget to rewind the tape when you are finished!

PS: If only Australia’s last Blockbuster store was available to rent!

Retro Gaming: Solid State Media

September 25, 2014 By ausretrogamer

retrogames_titleThere is no point in pretending that I am a fan of downloadable content (DLC) – just for the record, I am not a fan! However, I can’t deny that it is the way of the future, unfortunately.

There is a sense of gratification when holding something precious like old school video games in your hands. That tactile pleasure is not the same as hitting the ‘Download Now‘ button. As solid state media becomes extinct, the pleasure of holding games in your hands and looking at the back to “check out the graphics” will become a thing of the past – something to tell your grandchildren.

Just like books adorning your personal library, there is an intoxicating atmosphere of nostalgia when you are able to view and touch your retro gaming collection. There is a sense of cultural importance in preserving these collections. Be proud of your gaming cartridges, diskettes, tapes, CDs, cards, DVDs and Blu-Rays. They may be going the same way as the dodo bird, but our passion for preserving these artefacts will ensure that they are enjoyed for generations to come.
