McAfee and WWE 2K24 Are a Good Match

I’ve seen a great deal of criticism about ESPN’s Pat McAfee getting a DLC pack for the game “WWE 2K24.” I’ve seen “WWE 2K24” players on social media calling it “annoying” and asking for a discount on next year’s game. I don’t understand what all the vitriol is about. McAfee is involved in wrestling as an announcer, so it seems like a natural fit that he has DLC pack for the newest WWE release. And the fact that you can play as his co-workers on “The Pat McAfee Show” is pretty exciting. I’ve enjoyed playing the game as Boston Connor and A.J. Hawk. I don’t see what the big deal is. Do fans of WWE take their video gaming so seriously that McAfee can’t be a part of the enormously successful game, along with his friends? It seems like “Much Ado About Nothing,” to quote a famous playwright

If fans of the game don’t want to play as anyone from “The Pat McAfee Show,” then choose not to. It’s simple. Is there too much Pat McAfee? That’s a whole other discussion. But him being a part of “WWE 2K24” makes a lot of sense to me. He has a younger crowd; and what do a great deal of young people do? Play video games.

I didn’t like Pat McAfee at first when I watched him on “College Gameday”; he was so different than anything else on ESPN. Then, I started watching some of his daily shows and I really enjoyed them. McAfee has a quick wit that’s rare on television, especially on sports programs. I found McAfee’s interaction with his co-hosts and friends hilarious and entertaining. I kept tuning in, and now I’m sort of hooked. I admit, the show isn’t for everyone, but it’s such a fun and fresh sports show.

I never liked wrestling video games until “W2K Battle Grounds” on Nintendo Switch. I always play “W2K” with Roman Reigns. I’m not a huge wrestling fan, but Reigns’ style is unique which makes him entertaining to watch. And in “W2K” I always seem to win my matches with him. He’s one of the brightest stars of the ring for a reason.

It’s a bit strange playing the game with non-wrestlers but I think that adds to the mystique of the matches. And A.J. Hawk seems like he could be a pro-wrestler. I hope “WWE 2K24” fans come around to the McAfee DLC pack. If not, oh well.

Get ready to relive some of your favourite arcade memories when Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium – chock-full with 32 classic Capcom games – releases worldwide on July 22, 2022 on Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®4, Xbox One and Steam. Retro fans and arcade novices alike can experience (or re-experience!) arcade mainstays like STREET FIGHTER, SATURDAY NIGHT SLAM MASTERS, BLACK TIGER, MEGAMAN 2 – THE POWER FIGHTERS -, A.K.A. MAGIC SWORD and more. Friends and family can even get in on the action with local multiplayer available across a number of titles.

Similar to the original Capcom Arcade Stadium released last year, players can expect an abundance of customization and gameplay options in Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium, including:

  • Online leaderboards: Climb the ladder and see how you stack up against other players.
  • Display settings: A variety of display settings (Normal, Arcade, Full Screen), screen filters, arcade cabinet designs and frames to personalize every gaming experience and maximize the feeling of playing at your own home arcade.
  • Gameplay options: Including adjustable Game Speed (from “Very Slow” to “Very Fast”) and Difficulty Level to increase accessibility – or to give yourself an added challenge.
  • Rewind: This Rewind feature is available across all Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium games and allows players to jump back 10 seconds in time to save themselves (or a friend) from any unforeseen dangers. Whether you’re struggling to defeat a boss or want to practice a tricky segment of a game, the Rewind feature unlocks a whole new dimension of gameplay.
  • Invincibility mode: Play all the titles in the collection in an invincible state, available as free DLC!

All players start out with SONSON, the 2D side-scrolling platformer first released in 1984, for free. Players who pre-order or purchase Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium before August 5, 2022 will receive the “Display Frames Set 1,” which gives players access to 32 title-specific display frames that open new customization options for their digital arcade cabinets. Additionally, players who pre-order or purchase Capcom Fighting Collection™ before September 30, 2022 will receive Three Wonders, which packs three arcade games into one, as a bonus game for Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium.

With Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium, players have the freedom to build up their own personalized collections by purchasing individual titles. For maximum nostalgia, players can choose to purchase the “Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium Bundle 1” for access to all 32 titles.

Original Capcom Arcade Stadium players also receive bonus content in Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium, including:

  • Capcom Arcade Stadium Music & Lights: Players who have save data from Capcom Arcade Stadium receive access to this new feature that allows you to change the colours and music for the menu screens.
  • Instruction Card Backgrounds: Anyone who purchased at least one title from Capcom Arcade Stadium will be able to set instructions and key art from  past titles as their background for the game.

Lastly, to celebrate Capcom’s 39th anniversary and the first year since the release of Capcom Arcade Stadium, we are making Street Fighter II – The World Warrior – available to download for free in Capcom Arcade Stadium through July 21, 2022.

Gone Retro Hunting

What does one do on a lazy Sunday afternoon? They go hunting for some old school classic gear at the local vintage market in Brunswick East.

After a few goes on the Daytona USA and Tazmi’s TX-1 arcade machines, we got hunting. So, what did we find you may ask? Take a gander below…

2015 Supanova Pop Culture Expo – Melbourne

The 2015 Supanova Pop Culture Expo began at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds last weekend (10-12 April) (followed by Gold Coast 17-19 Apr, Sydney 19-21 Jun, Perth 26-28 Jun, Adelaide 20-22 Nov and Brisbane 27-29 Nov). Ausretrogamer and I visited primarily to watch the Australian 2015 Timezone Supanova Pinball Championship: Victorian State Final, but we could not resist checking out all the other geeky delights on offer.

A Tale Of Wrestling In Video Games

Wrestling is quite popular around the world. Is it a sport or is it theatre? Whatever the case may be, it was a match made in heaven when wrestling made it to the video games realm. How much fun was it when you pulled off a suplex on your unsuspecting friend and then having them down for the count? Ah wrestling, pure unadulterated entertainment.

Being a wrestling and video games fan, the Wrestling With Pixels: The World Tour Of Wrestling Games kickstarter campaign caught my eye. I knew I had to scratch the surface on this one.

Wrestling With Pixels: The World Tour of Wrestling Games (by Botched Productions), is a book and DVD project detailing the entire history of wrestling video games development in the US and Japan. It will feature interviews with wrestlers and game developers alike. What more could you ask for?
