19th Century Nintendo Office Recreated by Fan To Store His Collection

April 9, 2021 By ausretrogamer

This is what we call fan dedication! Actually, French Nintendo collector, Fabrice Heilig is what we would call a dedicated SUPERFAN!

Not only does Fabrice have an extensive collection of all things Nintendo, he has gone the extra (massive) step to recreate Nintendo’s 19th century Kyoto office in his backyard. Fabrice has created what all collectors yearn for – extra space (to house his collection), which he has done in style and in keeping with his love of all things Nintendo.

We must say, the result is incredible! Fabrice has faithfully recreated the iconic Nintendo building, with a tasteful fit-out to match the traditional Japanese style. If he wanted to charge for visits, we’d be his first customer!

Read more about the process of recreating this amazing building (with a ton more pics!) at Before Mario. This is amazing stuff.

Let the planning begin!
Nintendo Office

Foundation done and now the framework!

Laying the traditional Japanese roof tiles!

The level of detail is unbelievable – bravo Fabrice!

Now, to re-home the massive Nintendo Collection!

The finished product – WOW!

The New Yorker Interview with Shigeru Miyamoto

December 22, 2020 By ausretrogamer

Simon Parkin’s The New Yorker interview with Nintendo’s legendary Shigeru Miyamoto is an interesting, insightful and wide-ranging, reflective conversation. Seldom do we hear or read anything so candid or beyond Shigeru’s amazing creations in his four decade long career with the Big N.

So kick back and read Simon’s refreshing interview with Miyamoto-san, as he speaks openly about his video games design philosophy, being the boss, guns in video games, his kids love of Sega (Ed: what?!) and the new Super Nintendo World theme park at Universal Studios in Japan.

LEGO Ideas – The Legend of Zelda

June 16, 2020 By ausretrogamer

How darn awesome is it when you get notified of a new LEGO Ideas creation? Well, we think that it is!

This new LEGO Ideas entry by Willjeum is based on Nintendo franchise stalwart, The Legend of Zelda. The LEGO Legend of Zelda – Lynel Defense, features a small build of the Hyrule castle front gates (inspired by the Hyrule castle from Ocarina of Time) and two Lynels (inspired by the golden and red Lynels from Breath of the Wild), as well as figures of Link, Zelda and two Hyrule Guards.

This custom build has an impressive 737 parts, so this is one hefty LEGO Ideas submission. Voting is still open, so if you like this custom Lego set, hop to it.

Infographic of the Most Popular Consoles and Games by US State

June 4, 2019 By Guest Contributor

Guest Post By: Evan S from JJGames

From the original Zelda games on the NES to GoldenEye 007 on the N64 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on the PS2, we take a look at the consoles of choice for retro gamers across America.

You never forget the first time you completed Super Mario Bros. You also never forget the first time you held one of those iconic Playstation controllers or when the best way to troubleshoot a game was to blow in the cartridge.

Times have changed and new consoles have come and gone, but there’s still something to be said about those iconic gaming systems that we were raised on. Their games have a unique charm that no amount of fancy graphics can make up for, which is why we turn to emulators and why original NES games still in their boxes go for hundreds of dollars on eBay.

To celebrate the release of a new infographics, which digs into the favourite consoles by state and favourite games by states, we thought we’d jump on in and take a look at the data.

NOTE: The infographics are based on the number of units sold for each game/console on JJGames.com from 1999 to 2019. More than 2.5 million games sold.

A Rare Look Inside Nintendo During the SNES Era

November 19, 2018 By ausretrogamer

If you’ve ever wondered what it was like in the Nintendo offices during their Super Nintendo days, then this excerpt  from the 1994 French documentary film Otaku is exactly what you are looking for!

Thanks to William Cladley from Game Escape for discovering this film and for adding English subtitles! Oh yeah, you’ll all recognise a younger Shigeru Miyamoto who even back then was always striving for a balance in creativity and management – both attributes have served him well.

Pop Culture Temptations

July 6, 2018 By ausretrogamer

It is quite dangerous working near cool pop culture stores in Melbourne. Within a stones throw from the office, we have Minotaur, All-Star Comics Melbourne and  ZiNG Pop Culture tempting us with their wares.

With mid-year sales going on right now, the temptation is unbearable – sorry wallet…
