Vault Dwellers, it’s time to report to the nearest pinball machine.
Stern Pinball has officially revealed its latest cornerstone title, Fallout, bringing Bethesda’s beloved post-apocalyptic universe to the silverball stage. Developed in collaboration with Bethesda Game Studios and Kilter Films, the new machine transforms the radioactive wasteland into what Stern describes as its most ambitious pinball experience yet.
For gamers of a certain vintage, Fallout needs little introduction. Since emerging from the irradiated depths back in 1997, the series has evolved from a cult-classic RPG into a worldwide phenomenon spanning blockbuster video games, collectibles, and the hugely successful television adaptation. Now, players can experience Vault-Tec’s retro-futuristic apocalypse through flashing lights, ringing bells, and the satisfying clatter of a pinball machine.

A Dream Team Behind the Machine
Pinball fans will be pleased to learn that Fallout comes from the drawing board of Keith Elwin, arguably the hottest designer in modern pinball. Elwin’s recent design credits include some of Stern’s most celebrated releases, including Jurassic Park, Godzilla, JAWS, and King Kong. The new machine was developed by the same team responsible for those acclaimed titles, immediately placing Fallout among the most anticipated pinball releases of recent years.
For many enthusiasts, seeing Keith Elwin’s name attached to a project is almost as exciting as the licence itself. His games are renowned for combining approachable rules with extraordinary depth, rewarding casual players and tournament competitors alike. If his recent track record is anything to go by, Fallout could be another instant classic.
A Wasteland Packed with Features
At the heart of Fallout pinball is a brand-new adventure inspired by both the video games and the television series. Players begin their journey in Vault 33 before venturing into the wasteland to battle raiders, level up their S.P.E.C.I.A.L. abilities, hack computer terminals using a Pip-Boy, and uncover the dark secrets of Vault-Tec.
Stern has crammed the playfield with plenty of fan-service, including:
- A physical die-cast Pip-Boy 3000 Mark V
- Vault-Tec-themed targets and gameplay features
- Nuka-Cola Bottle Cap spinners
- A mechanical Vault Blast Door
- Multiple playfield levels on Premium and LE models
- Character-driven missions featuring Lucy, The Ghoul, and Maximus
- RPG-inspired progression based on the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attribute system
The machine draws from more than 200,000 Fallout assets supplied by Bethesda, blending elements from the games and television series into a remarkably authentic recreation of the franchise’s unique setting.
RPG Mechanics Meet Silverball
One of the most intriguing aspects of Fallout is how heavily it leans into role-playing mechanics.
Players can level up their S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes through gameplay, unlocking additional modes and character-specific content as they progress. Lucy MacLean, The Ghoul, and Maximus each bring their own quests and storylines, adding layers of progression rarely seen in traditional pinball machines.
It’s another example of Stern continuing to blur the line between modern video games and traditional pinball.
Three Editions for Every Vault Dweller
As expected, Fallout will be available in three editions:
Pro Edition
The standard commercial model that delivers the complete core gameplay experience.
Premium Edition
Adds significant mechanical features, including additional playfield elements and expanded gameplay opportunities.
Limited Edition
Restricted to just 770 machines worldwide, the LE model includes exclusive artwork, enhanced cabinet features, expression lighting systems, collector-focused extras, and sequential numbering. The number 770 is a deliberate nod to Fallout’s “Great War” of 2077.
Collectors may want to move quickly. Stern Limited Editions have a habit of disappearing into private vaults almost as fast as a Nuka-Cola Quantum at a fan convention.
A Match Made in the Wasteland
If there was ever a gaming franchise perfectly suited for pinball, Fallout would be high on the list.
The series already feels like a giant pinball table. Giant vault doors. Mutant creatures. Nuclear explosions. Retro-futuristic technology. Crazy science experiments. Bottle caps. Giant robots. It practically writes itself.
The retro-1950s aesthetic blends beautifully with pinball’s own golden-age roots, while the franchise’s mix of exploration, combat, humour and chaos seems tailor-made for an action-packed pinball playfield.
For Australian fans of gaming, arcades and silverball, Fallout looks set to become one of the biggest pinball releases of 2026.
