Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia

February 27, 2017 By ausretrogamer

In 2015 when our fave plumber, Mario, celebrated the 30th anniversary of his Super Mario Bros. game, an epic book was released in Japan to coincide with this momentous occasion. The Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros., also known as Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia: Nintendo Official Guide Book was available to lucky Japanese gamers all the way back in October 2015.

Just like the good (Ed: or bad!) old days where we would wait two years for a western release of awesome Japanese gear, the wait is (almost) over! The Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia will be available (in Europe and North America) in June this year via Book Depository.

We can’t wait to wrap our hands around this tome!

Jason Allemann has made an amazing working LEGO Piranha Plant from Super Mario Bros.

“The model features some interesting mechanics in order to get the plant’s mouth to open and close as it is raised and lowered in the pipe. In this video I explain how it all works. More information can be found on my website”

Roommates Kal Fadem and Warren Strickler were playing ping pong back in 2009 and by amazing coincidence they hit a series of shots that sounded just like the beginning of the Super Mario Bros. theme ‘Da-da-da-da-da-da — dum’ – wow, check it out!

In this clever stop motion animated video by MysteryGuitarMan (a.k.a. Joe Penna), classic video games (Asteroids, Flappy Bird, Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario Kart, Pac-Man and Pokemon to be precise) are recreated using printed or projected stock footage – very impressive and very cute!
