Back To The Nineties: Magic Eye Pictures

03/03/2015 By Ms. ausretrogamer

I got excited again about magic eye pictures after reading about how they work and why some people can’t see them on Mental Floss. Here are some retrogaming-themed magic eye pictures for a dual hit of nostalgia.

Hopefully you’re not like poor Willam from Mallrats who just couldn’t see that sailboat!

…but maybe that’s because there WAS NO SAILBOAT!

Now I need to rest my eyes, I think it will be another 20 years before I’m ready to look at another magic eye picture!

The Physics Of Mario’s Super Jumping Ability

17/02/2015 By Ms. ausretrogamer

PBS Space Time HeaderPBS Space Time is a weekly YouTube program that ‘explores the outer reaches of space, the craziness of astrophysics, the possibilities of sci-fi, and anything else you can think of beyond Planet Earth’ with host Gabe Perez-Giz – an astrophysicist who studies black hole physics.

In this episode they look into the secret behind Mario’s amazing jumping ability – is gravity in Super Mario World weaker than Earth, and could Super Mario World exist on one of the planets in our Solar System? Or does Mario just have really, really strong legs? Watch the video to find out!

Retro Gaming: The Next Generation

11/08/2013 By ausretrogamer

I had the best surprise from my nine-year-old nephew – he recited the Super Mario Bros. tune one-handed on his piano! I was proud as punch and blown away when he told me that he had only been practising that morning. Being a shy kid, I promised him that I would only film his hands during the recital. It is great to see that the retro gaming baton is in great hands with our next generation.

Super Mario Bros Acapella

Ever had a jingle stuck in your head? I know I have with Super Mario Bros. That happy little tune has been entrenched in the deepest corner of my brain since the mid 1980s. Seems like I am not the only one.

After watching Trudbol & Nick McKaig’s Super Mario Bros Acapella rendition, I know I am not alone with this jingle replaying in my brain. What have you done to us Koji Kondo!
